Forschungsinteressen
Unser Hauptforschungsinteresse gilt der organismischen Evolution und Phylogenie der Angiospermen. Im Besonderen interessieren uns die vergleichende Analyse von Struktur und Funktion der Blüten von rezenten sowohl als auch von fossilen Angiospermen, das Studium der Blütenontogenie und die Analyse der Merkmalsevolution mithilfe von phylogenetischen Methoden. Eines unserer wichtigsten Ziele ist es, durch die Integration von vergleichend-morphologischen Analysen, paläeobotanischen Daten und molekularphylogenetischen Methoden, die frühe Evolution und Diversifizierung der Angiospermen besser zu verstehen. Die wichtigste Untersuchungsgruppe in unserer Forschung ist derzeit die Ordnung Ericales. Daneben sind wir aber in verschiedene weitere Forschungsprojekte mit Fokus auf andere Entwicklungslinien involviert (z.B. Acanthaceae, Araceae, Melastomataceae, Malvaceae, Orchidaceae). Drei Themenbereiche, für die wir uns erst in neuerer Zeit mehr zu interessieren begonnen haben, sind die Blütenbiologie (insbesondere in den Tropen), die Anwendung neuer Methoden zur Untersuchung der Blütenstruktur (hochauflösende Röntgencomputertomografie) und moderne Methoden (morphospace) in der Analyse der Evolution und Diversität der Pflanzen.
